April
(14)
So we've been wanting to visit Avilon zoo since before Joy left for the States. So last April 9 (Saturday), off we went. Louie and I, Rony, Andrei, Chloe and Daisy all packed into the car around 8ish then went off into the unknown with some fairly vague narrative maps to guide the way. Actually I was surprised at how close it was (it was like an hour and a half with stops from QC). It was actually quite fun.
We'd been prepping Chloe the night before about the zoo and she was excited to see crocodiles (she saw them on Dora the Explorer). Apparently, you get a tour guide with every group of 30 or so people. And naturally, we lost our tour guide (hay, simple instructions!) so we ended up following another group and THEIR tour guide. Hee hee.
So is Avilon zoo great or what? We saw lots of cool animals there. Monkeys, spiders, snakes (even a picture with one!), lions, tigers and bears (oh my!) and birds galore. There were no elephants or giraffes though, but that was fine.
Quotable quotes from Chloe at the Zoo:
On Monkeys: "I'm scared!"
On birds: "Bird flying... be careful. Oink, oink!" (um, I have no idea where that came from.)
On seeing the pony: "Horse, mommy. Cutie."
On Uncle Rony: "AYAW!"
On visiting the crocodiles: "Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."
Quotable quote from Rony when he and Chloe were looking the pond and there were two ducks humping each other: "Oh my god, Angel! There are two ducks doing it on the pond!" (This while he is covering Chloe's eyes...)
Quotable quote from Louie on 2 crocodiles, one on top of the other: "Look! Gay crocs!"
Quotable quote from Angel on the ostrich, cruelly said IN FRONT of the Ostrich: "Didn't we try ostrich meat at MYLK? You know, Ron, it tastes like beef."
Quotable quote from Andrei when referring to snakes: "They're beautiful."
Quotable quote from Angel in reply to Andrei's quote on snakes: "I don't think you can put snake and beautiful in the same sentence unless you have the words, handbag or shoes in there too."
AND THE WINNING QUOTE:
Quotable quote from Rony at the end of the zoo trip: "I'm against the encagement of animals... but they do look pretty."
It was bloody hot. I went around the zoo a second time to take some videos (we had a regular camera and a digital camera the first time so I ran out of arms). Anyway, it was REALLY hot. And oh, I hate spiders but I got a pretty good picture of a tarantula. Eeeew.
And oh my personal thoughts on the ostrich: They look like really clumsy animals. And they just stare at you weird. One of them tried to attack me while I was getting her on video.
Chloe fell asleep after 2 hours of going around the park. She missed the crocodiles. She woke up just as we were getting back to the car and pointedly told me that "Ayaw snakes. Ayaw tigers. Ayaw monkeys." (For the non-Tagalog bunch out there, "ayaw" means "I don't like"). Ah, but she did like the birds she said. There's animal appreciation for ya.
It was a terrific day. Bloody hot, but definitely fun. Enjoy the pictures!
